National Geographic Channels International Announces Premiere Of Inside: The Tiger Trade With Red Earth Studio
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNELS INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES PREMIERE OF INSIDE: THE TIGER TRADE WITH RED EARTH STUDIO
(Washington, DC – March 22, 2010) National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) has teamed up with Red Earth Studio to produce Inside: The Tiger Trade. The one-hour special is a hard-hitting investigation into the illegal underworld of tiger poaching, a highly organised trade that is systematically wiping out the world’s tiger population. Inside: The Tiger Trade will premiere internationally on National Geographic Channel in May.
Inside: The Tiger Trade goes undercover with the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) – an international organization dedicated to exposing environmental crime. The group’s reconnaissance missions put them in constant danger as they try to unravel the inner workings of the illegal tiger trade network. With skins, organs and bones fetching tens of thousands of U.S. dollars on the black market, tigers have little defence against organized crime, corruption and poaching.
“With only some 3,500 tigers left in the wild, time is running out for one of the world’s most majestic animals. NGCI is proud to partner with Red Earth Studio on this powerful documentary, which calls attention to this shocking crime. We hope to raise awareness about a conservation issue central to the National Geographic brand,” said Sydney Suissa, Executive Vice President of Content for NGCI.
Julien Mignonac, co-founder and Executive Producer, Red Earth Studio added: “This series is a rare and important insight into the important work that the EIA does to combat this illegal trade. Red Earth Studio is delighted to be working with NGCI on this, as they share the same vision for the series and are dedicated in factually bringing forth the eco crimes hitting our planet.”
