NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNELS INTERNATIONAL CHECKS INTO THE FREMANTLE CORPORATION'S WEIRD & WONDERFUL HOTELS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
(Washington, DC – March 4, 2010) – National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) today announced the acquisition of Weird & Wonderful Hotels (13 x 30’) from the Fremantle Corporation. The series will air on NGCI’s Nat Geo Adventure channel beginning in April.
Weird & Wonderful Hotels showcases the world’s most unique – and peculiar – lodging experiences, and uncovers the inspiration behind these one-of-a-kind venues. Accommodations range from the delightfully rustic like Mongolian yurts, stilted villa on a Maldives lagoon, historic Wigwams, and a Dutch lighthouse to the bizarre – abandoned trains, a zero star hotel in a Swiss air raid shelter, concrete tubes, jumbo jets, spheres suspended like yo-yos from trees, a ghost town and even a converted Slovenian jail cell. Not overlooked are also some of the world’s most remote, luxurious and eco-friendly retreats on the globe.
"Weird & Wonderful Hotels puts a smile on people's faces. Light and entertaining, the series is shot on location all over the world from Japan to North America, Africa to Australia, South America to Europe and all the places in between and has found an ideal home on Nat Geo Adventure," said Diane Tripp, The Fremantle Corp.'s Sr. V.P. of Sales.
“Weird and Wonderful Hotels is full of quirky charm as it offers an exclusive tour of the world’s most unusual spots to rest your head along with luxurious retreats and eco-friendly lodges. The series is a natural fit for the Nat Geo Adventure audience“, said Carlyn Staudt, Senior Vice President of Global Acquisitions for National Geographic Channel.
Weird & Wonderful Hotels is produced by Sleepdog in association with Chief Productions. The Fremantle Corporation holds the worldwide distribution rights to the series.
