Janet Han Vissering
Senior Vice President, Development and Co-Production
National Geographic Channels International

As Senior Vice President of Development and Co-production for National Geographic Channels International (NGCI), Janet Han Vissering is responsible for commissioning over 250 hours of original programming per year for broadcast in 166 countries, 320 million homes and 34 languages worldwide.  As part of Development, she has been responsible for developing key programmes such as Engineering Connections, Big, Bigger, Biggest and Animal Autopsy, among other highly rated shows.  In addition, Vissering manages NGCI's relationship with strategic co-production and output partners in the US, Europe, Asia and Latin America. 

In her role, Vissering manages a team to source and develop all third party original programming, including the negotiation of output deals.  Vissering also develops alternative funding sources including non-profit organizations, private organizations and state-funded associations.  Previously, she was SVP of Strategic Development and Co-Finance for seven years. 

Prior to acquiring her position as SVP of Strategic Development and Co-Finance, Vissering served as Vice President of International Acquisitions at NGCI from August 1998 to March 2000.  She joined NGCI from Discovery Networks International, where she was Head of Program Acquisitions and Development from 1995 to 1998.  In this post, she was responsible for managing the acquisition and development of over 2,500 program hours annually.  She was also in charge of overseeing co-production agreements at Discovery, working closely with independent producers and companies in both the domestic and international markets.  Vissering joined Discovery Communications, Inc. as a Regional Marketing Manager for The Learning Channel, Affiliate Sales and Relations in March 1993.  Prior to this, she was a public affairs specialist for the Department of the Navy, based in Sasebo, Japan. 

A graduate of the University of Maryland in College Park, with a major in International Relations/Business, Vissering is a native of Korea and speaks Korean fluently.
